What are Doppler phases?
Doppler debuted January 8, 2015 with the Chroma Case. Every Doppler knife drops as one of the 7 finishes below — the paint index table is the ground truth (it's what the inspect link reveals):
| Paint index | Variant | Internal grade |
|---|---|---|
| 415 | Ruby | Classified |
| 416 | Sapphire | Classified |
| 417 | Black Pearl | Covert (rarest) |
| 418 | Phase 1 | Restricted |
| 419 | Phase 2 | Restricted |
| 420 | Phase 3 | Restricted |
| 421 | Phase 4 | Restricted |
How to tell the phases apart
- Phase 1 — dark base with deep blue and purple streaks; subdued.
- Phase 2 — dominated by bright pink/purple ("pink lightsaber"); the crowd favorite.
- Phase 3 — darkest: black + deep blue with a green tint (its tell); least loved.
- Phase 4 — blue-dominant with black sections, almost no pink. Closest lookalike to Sapphire — which spawns the classic scam.
- Ruby — uniform gem red with orange glints.
- Sapphire — uniform gem blue with purple hints.
- Black Pearl — deep purple-black with green/purple iridescence (brighter in CS2 than CS:GO).
What are the odds of each phase?
Valve has never published odds. Public-data consensus: the 4 numbered phases roll ~22–24% each; Ruby and Sapphire land around ~2–4% each; Black Pearl ~1%. Live supply (June 2026): ~5,100–6,900 listings per numbered phase vs ~4,700 Sapphires, ~3,400 Rubies and just 829 Black Pearls. Before any of that, the knife itself is a ~0.26% case drop (1 in ~385).
Float & StatTrak: Doppler locks float to 0.00–0.08 — only FN and MW exist (Field-Tested and below are mathematically impossible). MW trades ~5% under FN on numbered phases, ~13% on gems. StatTrak exists on all case Dopplers (~10% of unboxes) — 2026 quirk: ST Karambit P2 has traded ~6% below non-ST.Which knives have Doppler? (4 case generations)

How to check the phase before buying
- Copy the listing's inspect link.
- Read the paint index in a checker (CSFloat inspect, csdb.gg): 415=Ruby, 416=Sapphire, 417=BP, 418–421=P1–P4.
- On the Steam Market all phases share one listing — inspect each unit before bidding. Third-party marketplaces (like NTSkins) separate phases for you.
- Famous seeds exist here too (Karambit P2 "max pink" #15/#19/#56; P4 "max blue" #494) — smaller premiums than Case Hardened, but real.
FAQ
Which Doppler phase is the most expensive?
Among numbered phases, Phase 2. Among gems, Sapphire led historically — since the 2025 crash, Ruby leads on Karambit, M9 and Butterfly. Is Phase 3 bad?
It's the cheapest and least demanded (the green tint divides opinion) — which makes it the best value entry into Dopplers; "max blue" P3s are a known value play.Black Pearl vs Sapphire?
Black Pearl is rarer (Covert, ~1%, 829 listings vs 4,700) but cheaper — in CS, demand beats scarcity. Can you choose the phase when unboxing?
No. The phase is rolled at unbox and immutable. It's purely cosmetic — zero gameplay effect.Does Doppler exist in Field-Tested?
No. Float is locked to 0.00–0.08: Factory New and Minimal Wear only.Data: paint-index table confirmed across public databases; prices from multi-market aggregators (June 2026); crash coverage by esports.gg and swap.gg. An NTSkins team guide — knife catalog.
